As the first female bar manager at Roberto’s American Bar, Adrienne Tschaudi has one of the city’s most successful bars firmly under control. For a cocktail challenge, she dedicated a drink called “Golden Girl” to the strong women in the industry.
„Golden Girls“ – mit Augenzwinkern für die Barkeeperinnen
Although the “Golden Girl” drink was created during a winter cocktail challenge in collaboration with Bacardi, that doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyed in spring too. Quite the contrary! This pleasantly fruity drink is perfect for any occasion – and its origin story couldn’t be more fitting for International Women’s Day.
“This is a drink with many inspirations. First and foremost, I dedicate this cocktail to women in the bar world, or more specifically, female bartenders. I don’t know too many female bartenders, and that’s exactly what needs to change, which is why I wanted to draw attention to this issue with this drink. The drink is also dedicated to the US sitcom ‘Golden Girls’. As we know, the series is about irony, cynicism, life experience, and fun among four older ladies. But it also addresses socially critical issues, some of which I can relate to the bar world in Austria and Vienna. Unfortunately, it often happens that women are not trusted with much,” says Adrienne.
The fact that women are trusted less than their male colleagues in the industry is a well-known problem, which often leads to young women not even daring to enter the industry in the first place, especially in the bar industry. However, Adrienne learned that things can be different at Roberto Pavlović-Hariwijadi’s top bars. The talented mixologist works as bar manager at Roberto Bar 3 (Marco d’Aviano Gasse).
“As the first female bar manager at Roberto American Bar, I was proven wrong. I was given the trust to have a voice, which I now want to use. Unfortunately, the profession is still very stigmatized and not even an option for many. I would like to see more women behind the bar and also in major competitions. My job as bar manager fills me with great pride and motivates me every day to bring more women into this profession.”
If you want to see Adrienne’s expertise for yourself, we highly recommend a visit to the “R3.” And if “Golden Girl” has piqued your interest and you’d like to mix the drink yourself, it’s easy to do. Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients:
5cl Bacardi Ocho
2cl pineapple juice
1cl lime juice
2.5–3cl vanilla sugar
Cinnamon
Shake all ingredients and serve in a champagne glass. (Don’t worry, other glasses will do too ) If you want to get really fancy, decorate the drink with a little gold leaf.
